Homemade Italian Spaghetti Sauce Recipe
There’s nothing better than indulging in homemade spaghetti sauce like grandma used to make. If you’re tired of eating sauce from the shelf, we’ll teach you a simple homemade spaghetti sauce recipe that is sure to take you back to the good old days.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 30 minutes
Yield: 4 cups
Ingredients:
- 28 oz. can tomato puree
- 18 oz. can tomato paste
- 3 cloves garlic
- 2 cup balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar or 1/2 cup red wine
- 1 lg. onion
- 1-2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 tsp. dried oregano or 1 tbsp. fresh and minced
- 1 tsp. dried basil or 2 tbsp. fresh and minced
Instructions:
Begin by coating the bottom of a large pot with Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Cut up your 1 large onion and 3 garlic cloves to your liking. (With this kind of sauce, chunkier is almost always better). Add chopped onion to your large pot, sautéing until clear in color, and then add your garlic. Cook until garlic is light in color. Once that has cooked sufficiently, stir in your 28 oz. can of tomato puree. You’ll likely need extra water so as not to burn the mix, so fill tomato puree can with water, and then add it to the mix. Add the 18 oz. can of tomato paste, stirring it with a spoon. This will ensure an even mixture of ingredients. Add ½ tsp. of dried Basil (or 1 tbsp. of fresh minced Basil), as well as your 2 cups of Balsamic Vinegar/Red Wine Vinegar (or a ½ cup of Red Wine). Allow sauce to boil, making sure to stir occasionally. Cover the pot and cook the sauce on the lowest heat until ready to serve. Once the sauce is ready to be served, sit back and enjoy!
